Let’s keep our heads on straight today, shall we?
Don’t get weird.
Should we have a Sea Babble Caucus? I’ve become absolutely hooked on all this news out of Iowa and would love to hear who you’re thinking of as a favorite. Let’s hear it, Interns.
(For the record, I am pulling strong for John Edwards, but still would love to hear whose corner you’re in.)
After Thursday night’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann, I was pretty sure that I was in love with Mr. Olbermann, again. Mainly because of the video contained in this link. I’m asking you, nay, begging you to watch it. Keith’s “Special Comments” are always intelligent, inspiring, passionate and everything we need to hear at that moment in time. This one is the best one I’ve ever seen, and that’s no lie.
But then, last night, as if it was some sort of signal to me that he and I are in fact meant to be, he did a “Special COME ON” about the return of my favorite family, The Bluths, not to my living room, but in fact to a movie theater near me. Seriously, watch this video. RIGHT NOW!
Keith! Baby! It’s meant to be! We’ll totally invite our friends, The Bluths.
COME ON!
Let’s take a moment to reflect on this.
Someone needs to explain to me why this is a good idea, because I can think of about 50,000 reasons why it isn’t.
Does Rudy Giuliani have a really weird “wide-eyed” facial expression? Not all the time. Like something really shocking happens right behind the camera and it just makes his eyes *pop* a bit. Maybe he just needs a nap.
Okay.
Okay.
So, are you watching/did you watch Larry King? I don’t think that I heard one word of what John McCain said because my laughter at his ‘young boy flag wavin’ posse’ was far too loud and uncontrolled to hear anything. What the hell is that!? Oh, John McCain. It’s kind of like when you’re at a carnival at you see a little kid enter a strong man contest. You know he’s going to lose, but you watch anyway because his determination is kind of cute. I’m so not calling John McCain cute.
One of my favorite things on TV is Countdown with F.H. Keith Olbermann, and on his show one of the very best features is called “Worst Person in the World” where he runs down to the top three newsmakers who can most easily compete for the title of Worst Person in the World.
Last night was excellent, check it out here.

In other news, while I am not nearly as excited as Wolf appears to be (though really, am I ever?) I am getting ready to watch the CNN MeTube Debate hosted by F.H. Anderson Cooper.

Anderson, you make my heart flutter.
So, stay tuned for comments on that. Maybe. We’ll see.
Howard Dean is talking to Wolf right now. “1:09:51 UNTIL THE YOUTUBE DEBATEEEE!!! BIYAAAHHHH!!! I. LOVE. ANDERSON COOPER. BIYYYAAAHHHHHH!”
That was excessive. I’ll admit it.
I had a nightmare last night but when I woke up, couldn’t remember what it was about.
I had heard rumblings of this last week, but never saw the price tags attached to melting ice. You’ve GOT to be kidding me.
After the World Series of Pop Culture, it’s safe to say that there is nothing on TV except the Senate Slumber Party 2007.
I’m sure none of you are watching this. But I am. And the novelty has long-since worn off. I guess I’m just hoping they do something really wild to the guy that falls asleep first.
Can we vote Joe Lieberman off the island yet?
Here’s a real doozy valid of your immediate attention.
“Pure political theater.” You know, like Masterpiece Theater for CSPAN.
Happy Monday Morning, kids. Since it is “What the Hell” O’clock Sea Babble Standard time, we need some real laughs so we can stop trying to find the fact that we’re up so damn early… funny. Because it’s pretty unfunny.
So watch this video of FH Jon Stewart. Because it’s hilarious. And has a one second mention/photo of FH John Krasinski. And it’s hilarious.
Which brings us to this week, officially.
Well, officially I am done with classes when I decide to finish my Mesoamerican Archaeology final. Which has to be done by Thursday, officially. And then I am officially d-o-n-e. Officially, this rocks. Then it’s weekend and graduation next Wednesday the 30th. Faaaantastic.
I’ve got some posts I’ve been dancing around for the past few weeks that I will hopefully buckle down to sometime this week, so keep your eyes peeled.
Happy Monday, Unpaid Interns.
Hope everyone’s weekend was lovely and filled with the most wonderful of adventures. Share them with me, would you?
ANYWAY, this post is to let you know that Sea Babble is currently under construction. We’re working on a new look for our girl and hopefully in a few days she’ll come out better than ever.
In the meantime, get to bed early so you can get up early with me tomorrow to watch Stephanie Miller on MSNBC at 6 AM Eastern Time (which sadly translates to 3 AM Pacific time, but totally worth it!)
This is my favorite photo I took this week:

Taken in traffic on the way home from a fantastic night filled with food, furniture and fun at:

IKEA with Silena and our good friend Shelley (right).
Happy weekend, loves!
Speaking of weekend… Kind of… this SUNDAY NIGHT yours truly plans on hitting the hay mighty early in order to wake up super duper early for personal hero STEPHANIE MILLER ON MSNBC MONDAY MORNING!!!!
That’s right! Monday through Wednesday of this week, the lovely, smart, hilarious, and ever fabulous Stephanie Miller will be filling in three days of the recently vacated Don Imus spot!
That being said, this mainly applies to my East Coast pals who might be up at 6-9 in the morning, or will remember to set their TIVOs. I, however, lacking TIVO technology and an apparent need for sleep… will be waking up at 3 and powering through at least a little bit of Momma on the TV Monday morning. Expect a fully groggy bloggy to follow.
Stephanie is part of the Air America line up (check your local listings) and offers the perfect balance of fact, opinion and humor that makes digesting some of the political goings on of our days so much easier.
I’m glad she’s getting this opportunity and hope that it may lead to bigger and better things for her! Rock on, Stephanie. We’re behind you 110%.
(Big thanks to Unpaid Intern John for the initial heads up on this one.)
Stop what you’re doing and please swallow any liquids you may have in your mouth.
And watch this.
Then get angry like I did, when you realize that “no one suffers more than our president” and Laura do.
I’m still trying to wrap my head around that last one without the profanity.
On the same day that Bush claims he is ‘horrified’ by the terrible, senseless and shocking shootings at Virginia Tech, he pulls more of the same old weasley shit in effort to ensure that we send more students, men, women, young and old, to die. And for what? I seem to lose track, seeing as our day-to-day justification changes.
Mr. Bush says Congress owes America’s fighting men and women no less.
And what do you owe them, Mr. Bush?
‘Horrified.’ That’s a really great word.
Edit: I’ve yet to take Sea Babble too seriously yet. And for that I’ve been struggling as to if I should take down this post or not. I want it to be known that I am not in any way trying to politicize what happened today. This post isn’t about the shooting and quite frankly, I’m beside myself feeling dejected, scared and confused over this horrible and senseless act. My heart goes out to everyone who is hurting, and tonight, I think we’re all hurting at least a little bit.
That being said, I find it extremely crucial that these kinds of points be made that show the hypocrisy and mindless thinking that is going on at the top of our society. People need to become more aware of the bigger picture of what’s going on here and abroad. Informed decision making starts with becoming informed and I hope we all take it upon ourselves to do so.
Again, I’m sorry if this comes off as politicizing something as heartbreaking as the events of the day, it wasn’t meant to do so.
As always, thanks for reading and much much love.
In honor of the Fox News Store (you know, like The Disney Store but for Republican nut jobs.) I saw in Houston tonight, I present to you the most shocking/awesome/shocking thing I ever seen.
Geraldo Rivera, you’re my hero????
(Travel update: There really was a Fox News Store in the George Bush International Airport. I really did get a picture. And last night, when I got in and I was walking down the stairs to baggage claim and at the bottom of the stairs, did I see my mother? My brother? Steve Martin? No, but! I did see my very dear friend and fellow science center scientist, Robin!!!!!! Very small world. Very small world indeed. Then… when Iain and mom and I were waiting for my baggage we watched as the carousel ANNIHILATED not one, but TWO suitcases. One of the rolly ones with the pop up handle (the handle got stuck somewhere and COMPLETELY ripped clean of the suitcase, taking half the fabric with it) and a giant box that was taped shut and looked like it had lost half of it’s belongings on the rough ride down the slide. Iain called it “The Harrison Ford Luggage Carousel.”) Also, I’ve returned home to a computer that isn’t making sound. Any takers on helping to fix this little problemo?)
I get happy when I see people getting involved in politics around a major election. It gives me a sense of hope that there are people out there who care and do participate, when the numbers can often times look shockingly weak.
I’ve not started to go the route of really “backing” a presidential for ‘08 yet, but rather am using this opportunity to keep my ears open and gather as much information as I can.
When the Dems took back Capitol Hill in November, I was excited for two reasons; One being that I was looking forward to actually seeing things get done in the better interest of the people, not just the people with deep pockets. Second, it was the first step to winning The White House in ‘08. It was time for Dems to really take matters into their own hands and make things happen. It is their duty now to make the country feel good about the party so that when a candidate is proposed in ‘08, the undecided vote may be slightly swayed by the good work of the last two years of good deeds on Capitol Hill. I believe this has been working, and perhaps faster than expected because of the massive hole that the GOP keeps digging for itself every few days.
Certainly I would stand full-force behind Barack Obama if he were to win the Democratic ticket. I love the man and his ideas and I find that he’s an incredibly bright mind with some wonderful plans, a strong foundation and the drive to get it done. He’s got charisma, and seems like an incredibly respectable man. I am slightly glad that what appeared to be his hype stage has started to die off because I think that what he’s saying will slowly become less processed and more organic.
Similarly, I’d vote for Hillary, not just because she’s married to one of my top five people of all time ever, but because I think she’s turning herself into a vehicle for change and progress, which is what I think we all need to see happen as soon as it can.
However, the concept of “electability” is constantly on my mind with these two candidates. Are we as a country that is ready to elect a woman? What about a non-white male? Do enough Americans hate Bill that they wouldn’t vote for Hillary just on that basic principal? You might be, but what about the other millions of Americans who get to have their say too?
It is with this that I felt particularly confident in John Edwards as a promising candidate.
I was unsure of Kerry in ‘04 until he picked Edwards as his running mate. Edwards, to me, speaks this version of what it means to be American that I love. His ideas on health care and poverty speaks 10 different kinds of sense to me and the fact that he’s been spending the last 2-ish years working on his humanitarian efforts around the world truly comes off as nothing short of wonderful. He’s one of the only candidates who is really mentioning our global responsibilities, especially in relation to Darfur, which is something I’ve been very appreciative of.
He seems like a man who loves his family, believes in himself and believes that there is still massive good to be done in this world, and on days when I feel dejected by the state of the world, that speaks to me and makes me happy and proud to support him.
That being said, I was heartbroken to hear about his wife Elizabeth. She seems like such a beautiful soul and a huge part of who he is, and the news about her cancer returning made me feel scared for her, and scared for the campaign. I didn’t expect them to continue the campaign, but they say they are. And this, to me, says quite loudly of the kind of man that John Edwards is. I got an e-mail yesterday from the Edwards mailing list I’m on:
Our campaign goes on and it goes on strongly. We are so proud of the campaign we are running—a campaign based on ideas and reaching out to people. This campaign is not about me or Elizabeth—it’s about all the people we have met these past few years and people like them all across America and the world—people worried about feeding and clothing their kids; people without health care; people facing hardships overseas.
Both of us are committed to this campaign. We’re committed to this cause and we’re committed to changing this country we love so much.
I would completely understand if he were to in fact suspend his campaign or put it on hiatus for the time being, but they’re not. It’s easy for a candidate to make a campaign about their name being on a bumper sticker, but to me this selfless act shows that the Edwards family realizes that this campaign is about so much more than John Edwards running for president. It embodies what this, and all elections should be about. Us. The people. This collective family of human beings that can face great adversity in a lifetime, or an 8 year period, but must learn to pick ourselves up and work to make things better than they were before.
I wish nothing but the best for John, Elizabeth and their family and find this form of dedication to a cause and nobleness to an idea, a shockingly beautiful thing and hope that others can realize the same.
Why do I feel like everyone and their mother has had a visit to the set of The Office except for me?
And this happened to be the next video on my playlist. (Do yourself a favor and hit stop after AC) A) Um… Yummy. B) Future Husband Anderson Cooper’s such a dork. But he’s my dork. And I couldn’t love him more.
What a classy, classy lady.
Well, not really “shocking.” Quite expected, actually. I just wanted an excuse to quote something.
I’m days late on this, but I don’t see how I would have heard about it until a channel I actually watch covered it.
Apparently Fox News has launched a “response” to The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, called “The 1/2 Hour News Hour.” (OH. THE WIT.)
And… well… here…
